Shuiguan, “Water Pass,” is a short but interesting section near Badaling where the wall was built to control a river valley. A large archway allowed water to pass through while the wall above maintained its defensive function.
Built by General Qi Jiguang during the Ming Dynasty, this section demonstrates how the Great Wall was adapted to natural terrain features.
